Surgery

Offering an array of surgical procedures, we are here to help you through the process. Committed to your pet’s safety and comfort, we ensure each patient undergoes a thorough pre-anesthetic evaluation including a comprehensive exam, blood testing, and EKG. Patients under anesthesia are closely monitored by a trained surgical nurse and following surgery, patients are moved to a comfortable area where they can recover under the close supervision of our skilled nursing staff.

Surgical procedures include:

  • Spay/Neuter
  • Lump Removal
  • Biopsy
  • Abdominal Exploratory
  • Foreign Body Removal
  • Cystotomy (Bladder Stone Removal)
  • Splenectomy
  • & More
Laser Therapy
Laser therapy is a non-invasive, painless, and drug-free therapy that has been clinically proven to stimulate cellular activity and help the body heal at a faster rate. Using a beam of light that penetrates tissue without causing any damage, laser therapy can be used to treat both acute and chronic conditions.
Urgent Care
We know that it is not always possible to plan for life’s mishaps, so we always welcome unscheduled appointments for any pets who develop an acute illness or injury. We will make sure that your pet is stable and cared for as quickly as possible.
Behavioral Consultation
Pets often demonstrate illness or anxiety through inappropriate behaviors or changes in behavior. These negative behaviors can lead to a breakdown of the human-animal bond and can even result in relinquishment of a pet. Our staff can help you find ways to modify or even eliminate negative behaviors.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture offers a variety of benefits for sick or injured pets, including those who suffer from arthritis. With acupuncture, nerves are stimulated to cause an increase in blood circulation, which helps relieve muscle spasms and the release of endorphins. For most pets, acupuncture treatment is painless, and the benefits can be seen almost immediately.
Dentistry
We provide a variety of routine and advanced dental services for your pet’s oral health. We offer routine prophylactic dental cleanings to maintain your pet’s healthy smile as well as advanced periodontal surgery to restore your pet’s mouth to a healthy state.
DNA Testing & Genetic Analysis Through Royal Canin®

We proudly offer the Royal Canin® Genetic Health Analysis, the most precise blood-based DNA test on the market. The test can accurately detect breed makeup three generations back to unlock your pet’s ancestry. This test can also detect specific genetic markers that can provide crucial information to our doctors about your pet’s unique medical needs.

FAQs

Why does my pet need an annual exam?
Pets age faster than humans, so it is important to have your pet examined at least once per year to get ahead of issues that might cause your pet to be sick in the future. Regular exams and screening tests allow your veterinarian to detect issues before your pet starts having symptoms and minimize the treatment needed.
Do I need to continue flea control during the winter months?
Yes, it is very important to continue with flea control all year long for the following reasons:

Fleas can live outdoors in temperatures as low as 33 degrees for up to five days (long enough to latch onto your dog, come into your home, and relish in the warmth of your home).

Flea eggs can live year-round in protected areas such as crawl spaces or porches.

Ticks can hibernate in the winter and become active if the temperature reaches 40 degrees, which is not uncommon in our area.

Why do I need to continue heartworm prevention year-round?
Due to unpredictable seasonal temperature changes, year-round treatment is essential to protecting your pet from getting heartworms. It only takes one mosquito bite to infect your pet. Heartworm disease is a serious disease that results in severe lung disease, heart failure, other organ damage, and death. The treatment for heartworm disease is a long process that is painful to your pet and is very expensive.
What dogs need an annual flu vaccination?
All dogs need flu vaccinations. As flu becomes more prevalent in dogs, it is important to protect your pet. The flu can be transmitted through contact with an object that an infected pet has nosed or licked. Dogs can be contagious up to 5 days before symptoms appear, so even pets who appear healthy at the dog park, boarding, grooming, or doggy daycare could present a risk to your pet.
Why is early detection blood testing recommended?
Bloodwork shows us what is going on on the inside. It helps your veterinarian to identify illnesses so they can be treated before the illness progresses and your pet gets really sick. Pets cannot tell us when they don’t feel well, so the screening blood test can identify issues early. The tests also provide a baseline for your pet as they age.
Why is it important to have my pets' teeth checked and cleaned?
Although most people assume cleaning their pets’ teeth is purely cosmetic, it is much more than that. With severe dental disease, bacteria and plaque can enter your pet’s bloodstream and spread to the heart, kidneys, and liver, causing your pet to be extremely sick. Signs of dental disease include:

Broken teeth
Loose teeth
Bad breath
Painful and bleeding mouth
Refusal or inability to eat and drink
Drooling

By the time your pet is three years of age, 80% will develop some form of dental disease. Treating your pet early and at regular intervals will prevent your pet from tooth loss, bad breath, oral pain, organ damage, and worsening dental disease.

What is the best food to feed my pet?
At Rockhill Pet Clinic, we recommend diets from Hills, Purina, and Royal Canin. These companies are science-based and thoroughly research the nutrition of every diet.
How do I know if my pet has worms?
Many pet owners worry about intestinal parasites. We recommend testing once a year to ensure your pet stays parasite free. We also recommend keeping your pet on Heartgard year-round which helps prevent many intestinal parasites.
